SURFSIDE BEACH CLUB DONATION!

Category : Blessing Posts

The blessings we have received from family and friends!!
We cannot thank Bob Durst’s cousin David Paxton and his wife, Cheryl who live in Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach Club, which is a community of about 500 houses. Twice a year they have a community yard sale. This year David took flyers to every home saying that if they had any clothing left over after the sale he would pick it up and bring it to us. The result, from that flyer, was a U-haul trailer arriving last night! This community, far from Florida, were so moved by Can We Helps mission, that they donated a large amount of clothing to Can We Help and even more clothing to the victims whom were just hit by the extreme flooding! Speaks well of that community and the goodness of hearts!
We are now stocked with at least enough clothing for 3-4 months and we have a “partner community” in South Carolina! Goodness has no boundaries…blessings abound! Thank you David and Cheryl and your entire community for clothing our homeless! God Bless!

AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE ARTICLE

Category : Blessing Posts

BOB DURST CITED IN RECENT NEWS ARTICLE
Bob Durst, Executive Director of Can We Help and a Member of the Martin County Affordable Housing Committee was cited in a Dec. 23 article by Gil Smart of the Stuart News.
Bob is quoted as saying that “there is no single answer (to affordable housing), but the first step is acknowledging that there is a problem”. In both his role as Executive director of Can We Help and as a Member of the Affordable Housing Committee Bob advocates for a comprehensive and holistic approach to providing affordable housing to the homeless, the working poor, the needy elderly and veterans.
Such an approach requires not only affordable “bricks and mortar”, but programs to bring people to livable wages and or wise stewardship of public funds so as to allow people to maintain the housing which may be provided to them.

Thank You St Joseph’s Church

Category : Blessing Posts

We are so grateful to St Joseph’s Church for including Can We Help in it’s new Community Outreach Center. The office space is invaluable and the opportunity to share the space with other Martin County non profits gives us a wonderful opportunity to network and combine efforts. Thank you, than you, thank you…..

Category : Blessing Posts

A big thank you to Renee Deschenes and Barbara Galloway for facilitating a meeting with themselves and Eric Kohrhamer of Life Builders. We spent a very productive morning discussing areas of common service, avenues of cooperation and combing our efforts in order to provide better service to the poor and homeless. Thanks, folks, and we look forward to working with you.

A Thank You From Bob Durst to Terry Brown & Bryan Irvine

Category : Blessing Posts

I can not thank Terry Brown and Bryan Irvine enough for their confidence in me to allow me status as a Chaplin at the Martin County Jail.
Most of the men I visit don’t know me, have had no contact with Can We Help and have never (or at least for a long, long time) had anyone show them random kindness.
The prayer time we share and the fact that I am nothing more than a lay Christian who is trying to bring them the love, forgiveness and support of Christ is far and beyond anything I have ever experienced
I earnestly pray that God will show me what He wants me to do with all of this.

Bob Durst Granted Chaplain Status at Martin County Jail

Category : Blessing Posts

Being a homeless person is lonely, isolated life–being a homeless person in jail is even more lonely and isolated. No family, no friends, often no pastor and seldom anyone to visit or support the inmate.

In cooperation with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Can We Help President, Bob Durst, has been granted Chaplain status at the Martin County Jail. This will allow Bob to visit with homeless inmates 7 days per week and to meet with them face to face with prayer and support or to simply let them know that there are those out here who care about them. We are grateful for and give thanks for the confidence which the Sheriff and his staff have extended to us and pledge to use these privileges as tools to make a difference in the lives of the incarcerated homeless.
