of HOT MEALS! It is so touching as there are so many of us whom are not comfortable when coming across a homeless person. This “touch of kindness” is all you need to show your care!

God bless!

Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.

TREASURE COAST COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY ADVISORY BOARD

Category : Media

Can We Help Director Appointed To The Treasure Coast Community Action Agency Advisory Board!

On March 29, 2016, the Martin county Commissioners appointed Robert Durst, Executive Director of Can We Help, as one of three representatives of Martin County  to be on the Treasure Coast Community Action Agency Advisory Board.

The Agency’s stated mission is to “collaborate with human services organizations, the private sector and residents to offer programs and services that build self-reliant individuals and families”.

In accepting the appointment, Mr. Durst observed that the mission of the Agency is strikingly similar to Can We Help’s mission of helping the homeless and the profoundly impoverished to achieve “self-sufficiency”.

“I am not only an advocate for the impoverished, but a very strong believer that helping people to truly achieve self-sufficiency and providing them with access to affordable housing can only be achieved through the partnership of nonprofit organizations and the private sector with the aid and support of governmental agencies”.

“Top down efforts have proved relatively futile in alleviating the problems of homelessness, poverty and hunger for almost three generations, and, while governmental support is essential, the effort must begin on a person to person level with a true commitment to bringing Treasure Coast Community Action Agencypeople to self-sufficiency on the part of both nonprofit and private sector”.

SURFSIDE BEACH CLUB DONATION!

Category : Blessing Posts

The blessings we have received from family and friends!!
We cannot thank Bob Durst’s cousin David Paxton and his wife, Cheryl who live in Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach Club, which is a community of about 500 houses. Twice a year they have a community yard sale. This year David took flyers to every home saying that if they had any clothing left over after the sale he would pick it up and bring it to us. The result, from that flyer, was a U-haul trailer arriving last night! This community, far from Florida, were so moved by Can We Helps mission, that they donated a large amount of clothing to Can We Help and even more clothing to the victims whom were just hit by the extreme flooding! Speaks well of that community and the goodness of hearts!
We are now stocked with at least enough clothing for 3-4 months and we have a “partner community” in South Carolina! Goodness has no boundaries…blessings abound! Thank you David and Cheryl and your entire community for clothing our homeless! God Bless!

AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMMITTEE ARTICLE

Category : Blessing Posts

BOB DURST CITED IN RECENT NEWS ARTICLE
Bob Durst, Executive Director of Can We Help and a Member of the Martin County Affordable Housing Committee was cited in a Dec. 23 article by Gil Smart of the Stuart News.
Bob is quoted as saying that “there is no single answer (to affordable housing), but the first step is acknowledging that there is a problem”. In both his role as Executive director of Can We Help and as a Member of the Affordable Housing Committee Bob advocates for a comprehensive and holistic approach to providing affordable housing to the homeless, the working poor, the needy elderly and veterans.
Such an approach requires not only affordable “bricks and mortar”, but programs to bring people to livable wages and or wise stewardship of public funds so as to allow people to maintain the housing which may be provided to them.

Board Chair Pacifico and President Durst Meet with Public Defender’s Office Re-Entry Team and Life Builders

Category : Blessing Posts

A big thank you to Renee Deschenes and Barbara Galloway for facilitating a meeting with themselves and Eric Kohrhamer of Life Builders. We spent a very productive morning discussing areas of common service, avenues of cooperation and combing our efforts in order to provide better service to the poor and homeless. Thanks, folks, and we look forward to working with you.
